Computer vision for industrial inspection
A segmentation model can separate an object from an image. An industrial inspection pipeline must also connect the image to an asset, define the target condition and validate its output against field evidence.
Segment Anything is a useful historical entry into segmentation. The connection to industrial inspection is an application pathway, not a claim that the catalogued tool is a qualified inspection product. Keep original images and calibration records when measurements matter.
Technology and application
| Technology / role | Industrial application / evidence to check |
|---|---|
| Segmentation | Mark a region or object; it does not by itself measure a defect. |
| Detection | Locate and classify a target; define missed detections and false alarms. |
| Inspection evidence | Link imagery, asset identity, capture conditions and human review. |
Define the requirement
- What sensor, resolution and lighting will capture the target?
- How will labeled field data test errors and exceptions?
- Where should inference run: device, ground station or cloud?

Tools and source evidence
Historical tool descriptions preserve their original context. Check the provider for current features; an industrial use case needs its own validation.
